PS Vita Homebrew starts very strong in 2026

PS VITA

2026 is already a great year and I feel it is gonna be much better, not because I have made some silly new year resolutions, but because it just started and, I am already having a hard times to cover all the latest amazing updates and releases :-)

First and foremost, we have received the first ever PS Vita Bounty that was already awarded to its developer - MaloneCZSD. It was a bounty for the port of Neighbours from Hell. He has made a solid job with it and I would like to send him my heartfelt thanks for all his hard work. It is a point and click, puzzle, strategy game, that was originally released way back in 2003 for Windows and now it has resurged on our beloved abandoned handheld platform. I love when the devs keep bringing these forgotten gems that I otherwise wouldn't have had a chance to try out (I hope I have used a correct tense, English is not my native language, I am working on it though :-)

He has also already shared with me some of his upcoming work-in-progress projects, that might come in the future - Neighbours from Hell Season 2 and Star Warfare. I have even tried NfH Season 2 and I feel like it is coming very soon because it is pretty much fully functional. Star Warfare works also decently but the save/load is not implemented yet.

2nd solid port came from the Rinnegatamante himself and it is dedicated to all, old-school Resident Evil 1 lovers. It is called Alisa and in his own words - '' this is, by far, the homebrew port that I have put the most attention and care on '' . This tells me Rinne is also a big RE fan. He has put a lot of tender-loving-care into this one, including optional CRT filter for better atmosphere. If you are into this genre, and you haven't heard about it yet. It is definitely recommended.

Then, the most recent and the most mind-blowing port is the Baldur's Gate : Dark Alliance. This is a port of old school PS2 hack and slash Diablo-style RPG. Everybody assumed straight away that now, finally, the developers found a way to port PS2 games to PS Vita. Unfortunately, this is an android port, as per usual, but it is hell of a good android port. The original android port was released quite recently in 2023 and the PS Vita port is based on it. The developer has done a lot of magic to put it into playable state, BIG thanks to him. The state of the game, as of right now, is really decent. I was really surprised by how good it plays. Considering its very recent (2023) release date, I was expecting it is going to be running not really good and that there are going be a lot of compromises. I am lucky to report this is absolutely not a case. The game actually runs at playable framerates. It is not stable framerate, when there is more action going on, you can see some frame drops, but all in all, for me, it is playable. You can also lock the framerate to 30FPS, which can help with the performance. It is done in game settings by enabling Battery Saving.

The only downside is that the video playback is not really smooth, so for example the game intro is choppy, however all the cutscenes are running okay. The dev has also disabled real-time shadows, but I wouldn't really consider this as a downside. The game is more on a darker/ atmospheric side and it wasn't screaming at me - No shadows brother !!!

The game also supports different languages and 2 player Coop mode !!! If you want to play with your buddy, you can. You can easily connect more controllers to PSTV (PS Vita TV) or you going to need mini Vita TV plugin if you want to connect extra controller to PS Vita.

Overall, this is an amazing new PS Vita port that is definitely worth installing on every hacked PS Vita and if your PS Vita is still not modded, you are missing out big time :-) The dev has also implemented cheats like invincibility and passing a level, if you are worried about having a hard time, this can help you with that.

In the meantime there were released an updates for ABYSS and DSVita emulator. I am installing it right after finishing this article. It looks like another important update. There is also a new pGBA emulator based on mGBA that I want to check out. I have seen the update for Aperture Reconstructed (unity Portal remake) is also being worked on. 2026 has started very strong, but there is one thing that I forgot to do in 2025. Best PS Vita Homebrew of 2025 video. Few of you have noticed it, I am fully aware of it too. I am not sure when I am going to get to it with so many exciting new releases, but one thing is certain - It is coming, sooner rather than later :-)

Thanks for reading this article, if you wanna see any of the aforementioned ports in action, with a proper gameplay footage, watch my latest videos . Have a wonderful day🙏
