BEST PSP GO M2 to Micro SD Adapter

Hey PSP GO fan, welcome. Pleasure to have you here :-) If you are like me, than I am sure you still love your PSP GO, and I am sure you will love it for a nice while more. The Chinese companies are already coming with the devices with similar form factor. I, myself, have bought an Anbernic RG Slide because I wanted to see what they came up with, but the device didn't meet my expectations. I will show you one picture and you tell me, where the engineers from Germany did a mistake ( inside joke from a Czech movie )
Yeah, You are right, it is humongous, and heavy, and thick. It is not a bad machine, the chip they have used is sufficient, just the sheer size of the product is quite big and it is absolutely not pocket friendly. Recently, another device inspired by this design appeared - Ayaneo Pocket Slide, sorry I mean Ayaneo Pocket Play :-) Here it is, can you tell me where the engineers from China did a mistake ?
Yes, You are right. It fricking doesn't have joysticks. I am not exactly sure about the size, it is hard to judge it by the picture, but the lack of joysticks is unforgivable. If they would have been smart enough to buy an actual Xperia Play, install some games and play them with it, they would have known straight away, this is not a way to go. Unfortunately, they were not smart enough to do that. They have put there touch based surfaces and as God is my witness, these suck ass. At least the ones on Xperia Play. I know technology gets better with time, still judging by the look of it, I have a lot of doubt.
You might think I have digressed, but nope, this leads me perfectly to the PSP GO. It was really ahead of its time, not just in terms of design design but in terms of technology used as well. It ditched the UMD drive and it went all digital. Quite bold move, especially for 2009 when it was released. Someone would say it was stupid, I say stupid was when they have used that proprietary memory card (memory stick M2) that was super expensive and the max size was 16GB. Add another 16GB of internal memory which makes the max size 32GB. Luckily, engineers from China brought us yet another M2 to Micro SD Adapter. I say yet another because this exactly the third version that I am checking out. And this version is the BEST one so far, in my humble opinion.
This adapter is very handy because it solves the max-size problem very easily. It just plugs into the original M2 slot, on the other side you plug in standard Micro SD, and this can expand your internal storage to the max of 128GB. You cannot get more than that unfortunately. This is a PSP hardware limitation, if you crave more scientific explanation, please watch this Total Kommando video. He did his best to explain every little detail about this issue in 21 minutes :-)
The installation of the adapter is super easy too. You just need to unscrew rear cover, get rid of few small pins and plug it in. That is it. Job done. Check this video to have better idea about the installation. Now I would like to compare the previous adapter to the latest one and why I think it is better.
Simply said, it is better, because it is cheaper, prettier and smaller. Previous iteration had on its end the classic PSP Magic Stick Pro Duo Micro SD adapter, whereas this new one ends with an elegant slot just for micro sd itself, no adapter in sight. The price is usually around $8, the previous version is around $14. To be completely honest, I feel it is tiny bit thicker than the previous version, the difference is negligible tough. On the other hand, the foot print is much smaller, that means there is more wiggle room inside of the PSP. Either way, you still need to remove those pins from the rear cover to fit it fully inside, without any kind of bump.
When I initially saw that small chip in there, I instantly thought that it would somehow magically increase the maximum capacity. Not sure why it came to my mind, but it was an incorrect assumption. The size is still exactly the same - 128GB
New iteration of this adapter proves my point, that PSP GO is and will be relevant in 2026 and beyond. People still love to buy it, hack it and modify it, and companies still coming with new inventions that help users to improve their experience, exactly like this M2 to Micro SD Adapter. I am a big fan of it. I am a big fan of a sliding design, I am a big fan of a PSP GO and I am eagerly waiting for any kind of its adaptation. I know it is not coming from Sony and therefore I am thankful even for companies like Ayaneo. Their attempt might not be perfect, PSP GO wasn't perfect either but at least they are trying. Same as Anbernic with their RG Slide. Can't wait what future holds in this sliding field
